  WATERFRONT PHYSIO & REHAB
THEIR JOURNEY IN THE COMMUNITY
  & WHY THEY STAND OUT
HH CHATS WITH AYUSHI MEHRA, OWNER/LEAD PHYSIOTHERAPIST
By now, if you live in the community or passed by on Marine Parade Drive, you may have visited or heard about Waterfront Physio & Rehab. When the doors opened for business in 2021 Water- front Physio was offering only physiotherapy and have now gradually evolved to add more services including chiropractic, acupuncture, massage therapy and osteopathy.
Ayushi Mehra, owner and lead physio- therapist, wanted to create a facility that would provide one on one care to patients in a welcoming environment. The goal is to assist people with injuries or post-surgery recovery to get back to their original self and do what they love doing, be it walking, running, lifting or even gardening.
For your health and wellbeing, Ayushi and her team work tirelessly to hire and work with licenced practitioners who are experts in their fields with diverse expe- rience and treatment styles. All the treatments offered at Waterfront Physio & Rehab are evidence based and involve manual therapy. Manual therapy is a form of treatment where the therapist moves the tissues and joints of the body to restore movement and relieve pain. Fol- lowing treatment, patients generally feel a sensation of increased circulation and muscles loosening.
Ayushi notes, in addition, most practi- tioners generally provide patients with a tailor-made exercise program to educate, maintain and prevent future onset of pains/injuries, thereby minimizing visits to the clinic. For your comfort, her team uses an online exercise platform as part of treatment plan with personalized videos that can be done at home. The platform lets the therapists stay con- nected by reviewing your progress, providing feedback and even sending motivating reminders.
SOME OF THE QUESTIONS AYUSHI GETS ASKED MOST FREQUENTLY AS
A PHYSIOTHERAPIST:
How can physiotherapy help me?
Physiotherapy focusses on restoring your movement and function in case of injury. It also helps in reducing your risk of injury or illness in future. You should see a physiotherapist if you have an injury or experience chronic (long-lasting) pain which limits your quality of life.
What to expect in my first visit for physiotherapy?
Typically, the first visit lasts 60 minutes where the therapist starts by asking detailed questions about the pain/injury and performs tests to accurately diagnose
the condition. You will be assessed phys- ically on your range of motion, posture, balance, muscle function and overall functioning of the body. A good portion of your first visit is then the treatment itself which may include a hands-on approach and application of some modal- ities like shockwave, laser or ultrasound.
How effective is physiotherapy?
In most cases you can expect to recover fully. However, results would differ person to person depending on the inten- sity of injury. Being a multidisciplinary clinic, it lets the therapist discuss your conditions amongst other practitioners to deliver an optimal treatment that may include a combination of other services like acupuncture, massage therapy or chi- ropractic.
What techniques do you use to treat conditions?
Some of the most common techniques are soft tissue release, Mulligan mobilisa- tion techniques, McKenzie technique, Kinesio Taping Method, modalities, advanced manual therapy and exercise prescription. HH
