TIPS FOR
IN-SUITE HEALTH
& SAFETY DURING LOCKDOWN
ELECTRICAL CONSIDERATIONS WHEN WORKING FROM HOME As many of us have been adapting to the challenges of stay home orders and have been working from home (in many cases multiple residents in the same unit) it is important to be conscious of the burden that this has placed on your suite’s elec- trical panel as well as the added cords and peripheral devices connected. Here is a simple checklist to review if you are in this remote work situation to help main- tain your safety at home:
• Are extension cords in good condition and positioned properly?
• Are cords and cables causing a trip- ping hazard?
• Are outlets grounded and not over- loaded?
• Is there surge protection for electrical equipment?
• Is there sufficient ventilation for elec- trical equipment?
• Are connections from cord to cord in a place where liquid could potentially be spilled causing the danger of a short circuit or electrocution?
It is important to remember that each wall outlet in your suite is rated for a maximum load of 15 amps. (Your dryer and stove are rated higher 30 or 40 amps). You can note this by the number on each switch in your circuit breaker box normally found in your hall closet or utility room. Most equipment that
